BLAER {blaer} is the quintet of Swiss pianist and composer Maja Nydegger. Accompanied by her band, she skilfully combines influences of soft, reduced jazz and spherical pop. Sleek melodies intertwine with repetitive piano patterns and form wide sound planes, faint sounds evolve into drifting beats that give the music an intense energy.
BLAER was formed in 2012 and brought together five active musicians of the young Swiss jazz scene: Maja Nydegger on piano, Nils Fischer and Claudio von Arx on bass clarinet and saxophone, Simon Iten on double bass and Emanuel Künzi on drums. From a young age the bandleader is fascinated above all by the soft sounds of the North European jazz scene. Maja Nydegger thus moves to Denmark for half a year in 2012, where she composes the music for the first album of BLAER. After the release of their debut album in 2014, the band plays concerts all over Switzerland and gets nominated for the ZKB jazz price in 2015. To produce the second album, Maja Nydegger goes back to Denmark once more in 2016. The cold Nordic winter inspires the writing of songs that will be released on the upcoming Album Out Of Silence.
The CD launch will be on the 19th of February 2017 at Bee-Flat Bern and the band will also be playing concerts in both Switzerland and Germany during its release tour in spring 2017.
