Matto Rules — Lonely Cat

The guys from Matto Rules didn’t really get much of a summer, since they were basically locked up in their band room in the middle of a parking garage, writing new songs for their EP Lonely Cat. Amidst the claustrophobic confinement the band worked on creating their signature sound. The usual pop structures were torn apart, massive sub basses, strange synths and ethereal guitar sounds were added before the various musical strands were reconstructed.
This spring Matto Rules already caused quite a stir in the Swiss music scene.
Their single Syd, a coproduction between Berne and Los Angeles, was what you might call an underground radio hit. Alternative radios as well as SRF3 and Couleur3 aired the single. For their new EP the band decided to rely on local know-how and worked with Basel based indie-rock producer Philippe Laffer of the fantastic Alterna Studios. Lonely Cat was released independently by the band and is sure to bring some colour into the dreary
Swiss winter. These guys definitely will stir up some big waves.
